Hard to believe a summer flew by so fast.... Three more days with PCPA, and then it's back to CalArts for year 2. I feel like I really accomplished a lot this summer, and got the chance to work with some great people on some really interesting projects!
I painted sets for The Rivals (dsr. Heidi Hoffer), Legally Blonde (dsr. DeAnne Kennedy), PCPA's retro-fitting additions to the set for the touring production Daddy Long Legs (dsr. David Farley), and The Three Sisters (dsr. Andrew Hammer). I also worked on building and painting some of the props for The Rivals. I was the sole painter for the three drops for PCPA's Outreach production of The Reluctant Dragon (touring to local schools this fall), and learned how to do beer glazing, and how denatured alcohol can be used to create visual texture.
All in all, a very rewarding summerstock experience. Working with Abby Hogan and the rest of the staff and interns was an absolute treat. Expect lots of pictures to pop up in my portfolio and on my Flickr account in the near future (once I get myself settled back home and all the pictures sorted out).

Year One Wrap-Up
The end of my first year of grad school is upon us! Classes and finals are over, and my first Portfolio Review is in a few short days... Monday, May 14. Still a lot of work to do to get that all finalized, but it's coming along well. One project to finish, and some photos to print out... but my new business cards are all set!
As for this summer... just wrapping up the loose ends with my employment situation, but it's looking like I'll be interning at the Pacific Conservatory for the Performing Arts.
All of the big changes can be a little overwhelming at times, but I can't complain... Exciting things are happening!

Next up: Scrim!
With my big head project nearing a close (pictures to follow when the finishing touches have been put on it, but I promise it'll be soon!), we've started planning for the next big project of the semester. Next up for me is a 4x6' scrim painting based on Arthur Rackham's illustration of Daphne (isn't she beautiful?). Looking forward to a new process and an awesome result, almost as much as I'm looking forward to being done with the big head! Don't get me wrong; I love that lady and all her magnificent hair, but she's wearing me down!
Also coming up this semester are a carved styrofoam gargoyle, some spray-gun paintings, and a 12x12' reproduction of a painting of William & Mary (that, will you believe, I can't seem to find on Google?). Awesome things are in store, and photos will be forthcoming!
